Why the “In-Person” Part of Your Consultation Matters

Dr. Rockmore greeting plastic surgery patient in Albany

If you’re seriously considering breast augmentation here in Albany, NY, you’ve probably already done quite a bit of research online. Between looking at before-and-after photos, reading testimonials, and familiarizing yourself with the details of the surgery, you may feel as if you know nearly everything there is to know about breast augmentation.

But while you can learn a lot from the comfort of your laptop, there’s plenty about the surgery and your doctor that you can only know once you come in for an in-person consultation.

The Implants

The implants themselves are the stars of the surgery, and you can only really examine them once you get to the office. During your consultation, you have the opportunity to physically hold different sample implants, feeling the differences between saline and silicone, textured and smooth, and high- and low-profile for yourself.

The implants will feel and behave differently once they’re in your body, of course, but understanding exactly what they look and feel like can help you make the decision about which ones are best for you.

The Office

Your consultation is a great time to evaluate the doctor’s office, too. How the office looks and functions can tell you a lot about the type of experience you can expect.

It starts as soon as you arrive. Pay attention to the office staff: Do they seem happy, knowledgeable, and organized? Are you kept waiting for a long time? Is the office clean, modern, and well-appointed?

These can be harbingers of a doctor’s attention to detail — and the overall morale of the practice.

Your Rapport

You’re there to meet the surgeon, and there’s a lot to be said for building an in-person rapport with him or her. During your first visit with your surgeon, you’ll do a lot of talking about your history, your goals, and the details of the surgery.

Personally, one of my favorite parts of each consultation is learning about the patient and hearing her story. Every breast augmentation patient is different, each with her own set of priorities and goals. It’s exciting to be able to tailor my approach to meet her where she is.
