Dispelling the Myths About Mommy Makeover (Before and After Photos)

A mommy makeover can be a transformative procedure that truly changes your life after you have children. Though catchy, the name “mommy makeover” doesn’t give much information about the procedure. Because of this, people can be easily misinformed about the surgery. Let’s clear up some of these misconceptions.

Myth #1: A mommy makeover is just a tummy tuck.

Truth: A mommy makeover is more than just a tummy tuck. It typically includes breast enhancement—augmentation, lift, or both, or a reduction. Additionally, it combines 1 or more body contouring procedures like tummy tuck and/or liposuction. One of the most appealing things about a mommy makeover is that a combination of procedures is performed at the same time, so you only have 1 anesthesia fee, 1 facility fee, and 1 recovery period.

The patient pictured below had breast augmentation and a tummy tuck.

Myth #2: It’s an easy alternative to diet and exercise.

Truth: A mommy makeover is not a weight loss procedure—no matter what, a healthy lifestyle is essential to looking and feeling good. What a mommy makeover can do is address changes to your body after childbirth or weight loss that can’t be fixed by diet and exercise, like sagging skin, separated abdominal muscles, and deflated breasts. A mommy makeover procedure like liposuction can also be a motivator to stay on track with your diet and exercise, as we discuss in a related blog post.

We always recommend that patients be close to their ideal weight prior to surgery—major weight fluctuations after the procedure can affect the results.

Myth #3: It’s all or nothing.

Truth: The surgery is completely customizable depending on your specific needs. During the consultation, we will discuss your goals for surgery and create a treatment plan that can address your specific concerns. Some women choose 2 procedures, while others choose 3. Additionally, these can be combined with non-surgical treatments like BOTOX® for comprehensive facial and body rejuvenation.

The patient pictured below had breast augmentation, a breast lift, a medial thigh lift, a circumferential body lift, and liposuction.

Myth #4: I’ll have noticeable scars.

Truth: A full tummy tuck scar goes from hip to hip, but its placement is hidden under the bikini line. I use an innovative technique to minimize not only tummy tuck scars but also breast surgery scars as well. I provide specific instructions on how to care for your scars, and you can find additional information about tummy tuck scarring on Healthline. If you follow the tips carefully, the scars should heal quickly and beautifully. You can see there is very little visible scarring in one of my mommy makeover patient’s before and after pictures below.

Myth #5: I will look unnatural.

Truth: Often patients are worried that their results will look obviously plastic. This can be avoided by choosing a surgeon who has vast experience and advanced skill to perform your mommy makeover. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I have completed years of rigorous classes, training, testing, and fieldwork. My goal is to give you subtle and natural-looking body contours, like the ones you enjoyed prior to motherhood. Instead of completely changing the way you look, I strive to restore a younger-looking, more confident you.

Myth #6: I’m too old to get a mommy makeover.

Truth: A mommy makeover at 50 or beyond is not rare. In fact, many women in their 50s and 60s come into our practice expressing their desire for a mommy makeover, but they don’t think they are candidates because of their age. In reality, age is typically not a factor when deciding if you are a good candidate for surgery. Instead, your overall health is more important. In my practice, I help women more closely resemble their pre-pregnancy look whether their children are toddlers or have just graduated from college.

The two patients pictured below are both in their mid-to-late 50s.

Interested in breast augmentation and a bluff? I need my eye lids taken in on top as my eyes are hooded looking and often uneven and I’m too pretty for that. 🥰.
